SIKKIM – the land of blooming rhododendrons

Sikkim, derived from the combination of two Limbu words "Suu" & "Khyim", is India's youngest & the second smallest state after Goa. Yet, its restricted geographical expanse never became a limiting factor on its way to become India’s most ecologically diverse & conscious state extant. The proud host of Mount Khangchendzonga & the International Flower Festival that attracts people from worldwide, Sikkim presently is home to a whooping one thousand and twenty-five species of flora.

A basket full of natural wonders apart, the State has gone on its way to help itself emerge as India’s leading tourist destination, by erecting gigantic religious figures that gracefully ornate the Sikkim skyline with resplendence. The Solophok Char Dham, with its sky-kissing statue of a meditative, 87ft tall Shiva surrounded by twelve Jyotirlingas has become a preeminent religious destination. The 130ft Sakyamuni Buddha that sits amidst an aesthetic Park steals the show from afar.

The land of Sikkim is riddled with nature trails & trek routes that pass by purple-hued valleys, holy frost laden lakes & warm sulfuric springs that heal. After long hours of scenic walks & endless bowls of steaming noodles, you end up near impenetrable passes nestled at the elevation of 16,000 ft. and to top it all, the all-encompassing view of the magnificent Kanchenjunga range from the balconies of local houses & monasteries, the windows of your vehicles, high-hanging ropeway cabins, and hotel rooms, is irreplaceable.
